Frequently Asked Questions

Why does it use Alt + R instead of Cmd + R on Mac?
On macOS, Cmd + R is the system-wide shortcut to reload web pages. Overriding it would accidentally refresh your browser and erase what you just typed. We chose ⌥ Option + R (Alt + R) to ensure zero conflicts with existing browser navigation.
How does Chrome Built-in AI work?
Modern versions of Google Chrome (Chrome 138+) include built-in, local AI models (such as Gemini Nano) via the W3C Translator and LanguageDetector APIs. When enabled, translation runs 100% locally on your machine with zero latency and zero data transfer.
What if my Chrome doesn't have the built-in AI flag enabled yet?
Translator Lite includes an intelligent fallback engine. Even if you haven't enabled the experimental flags yet, the extension works seamlessly right out of the box. You can enable on-device AI anytime by following the guide inside the extension popup.
Is my text stored or tracked anywhere?
Never. Translator Lite does not collect, track, or transmit your typed text. There are no tracking scripts, analytics trackers, or user databases. Your privacy is paramount.
